Middle School Flex Period

What is Flex Period?

Flex is a non-graded course offered to all students at Coy Middle School and serves as an important part of the school day. This dedicated time allows students to stay organized, monitor academic progress, and receive additional support when needed.

During Flex, students may check ProgressBook and email, update their agendas, complete assignments, make up missed work or assessments, and connect with teachers for extra help. Flex also provides opportunities for students to participate in activities that support personal growth, academic success, and positive school culture.

The goal of Flex is to ensure every student feels connected, supported, and known by at least one adult in the building. Activities may include study skills, targeted academic support, character education, college and career readiness, community service, project-based learning, and enrichment opportunities across a variety of subject areas.

Flex is also used for grade-level meetings, student recognition programs, PBIS activities, Character Education, and anti-bullying initiatives. By providing time for these important experiences during the school day, Flex helps strengthen school culture while protecting core instructional time.

Each student is assigned a Flex teacher for the entire school year, creating a consistent point of connection and support. Depending on individual needs, students may also work with other teachers throughout the year.
